With the rapid growth of technologies and demand of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPASs), integration of such systems into the existing airspace is becoming an issue in many countries. To assess the impact of integrated operations of manned and remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), it is necessary to perform Human-in-The-Loop (HiTL) simulations of likely situations with an integrated simulation system. This paper defines several operational concepts for the integrated simulation. Several probable scenarios were developed including a traffic pattern at a small airport and an altitude maneuver at a route crossing. HiTL simulations were performed according to the developed scenarios. The simulation results are analyzed focusing on the impacts of different communication, safety, performance, and human machine interface (HMI) characteristics of RPA.

Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) is operating widely in civil and military area. GNSS signals, however, can be easily interfered because its signal is vulnerable to jamming. Thus, a sort of backup or alternative system is needed in order that the navigation performance is assured to a certain degree in case of GNSS jamming. In order to suggest a series of backup or alternative system of regional navigation, in this paper, we introduced a high altitude long endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (HALE UAV) with pseudolites using inverted GPS and transceiver system. We simulated the positioning error of the regional navigation system using HALE UAV with inverted GPS or transceivers concepts. We estimated the position error of HALE UAV calculate user position errors based on the position error of HALE UAV and general pseudorange error.

The air traffic control service in the domestic airports and approach control centers is provided using data from flight plan and a variety of surveillance sensors such as SSR, ADS-B and MLAT, etc. The physical connection methods and data types of the sensors are various, as so using these data directly may cause a lot of cost in development and maintenance of air traffic control equipment. As a method for solving such a problem, we propose a system that can convert the data from the heterogeneous sensors to the unified format which can be processed by the air traffic control devices. In this paper, the analysis results for the physical characteristics and data formats of the typical surveillance sensors are described. Also, the system design and the system implementation result for the multi-sensor interface system to interoperate the sensors are explained in detail.

This paper introduces the time-misalignment error between multiple range measurements acquired by an onboard distance measuring equipment (DME) interrogator and proposes an efficient position determination method that can mitigate the negative effects of the time-misalignment error. The introduced time-misalignment error does not occur in conventional utilization of DME combined with VHF omnidirectional range (VOR). The proposed position determination method projects all the DME range measurements acquired irregularly during an interval to the same time instance where the aircraft position is determined. By the simulation utilizing a representative aircraft trajectory, it is shown that it is possible to estimate the horizontal position accurately without any changes of ground DME facilities.

There have recently been various services that use indoor location estimation technologies. Representative methods of location estimation include fingerprinting and triangulation, but they lack accuracy. Various kinds of research which apply existing location estimation methods like AOA, TOA, and TDOA are being done to solve this problem. In this paper, we study the location estimation algorithm based on AOA using a RSSI difference in indoor environments. We assume that there is a single AP with four antennas, and estimate the angle of arrival based on the RSSI value to apply the AOA algorithm. To compensate for RSSI, we use a recursive averaging filter, and use the corrected RSSI and the Pythagorean theorem to estimate the angle of arrival. The results of the experiment, show an error of 18% because of the radiation pattern of the four non-directional antennas arranged at narrow intervals.

GPS is the representative positioning technology for providing the location information. This technique has the disadvantage that does not operate in the shadow areas, such as urban or dense forest and the interior. This paper proposes a hybrid indoor positioning algorithm, which estimates a more accurate location of the terminal using strength of the Wi-Fi signal from the indoor AP. To determine the location of the user, we establish the most appropriate path loss model for the measurement environment. by using the RSSI value measured in a variety of environment such as building structure, person, distance, etc. The path loss exponent obtained by the path loss model is changed according to the environment. REKF, PF estimate the position of the terminal by using measured value from the AP with path loss exponent. For more accurate position estimation, we select positioning system by the value of threshold measured by experiments rather than a single positioning system. Experimental results using the proposed hybrid algorithm show that the performance is improved by about 17% than the conventional single positioning method.

The stability condition of linear discrete interval systems with a time-varying delay time is considered. The considered system has interval system matrices for both non-delayed and delayed states with time-varying delay time within given interval values. The proposed condition is derived by using Lyapunov stability theory and expressed by very simple inequality. Compared to previous results, the stability issue on the interval systems is expanded to time-varying delay. Furthermore, the new condition can imply the existing results on the time-invariant case and show the relation between interval time-varying delay time and stability of the system. The proposed condition can be applied to find the stability bound of the discrete interval system. Some numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of the new condition and comparisons with the previously reported results are also presented.

The implementation possibility of the flexible optical network configuration using the non-midway optical phase conjugator (OPC) in the dispersion-managed (DM) optical link for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) transmission is demonstrated in this paper. It is confirmed that the implementation possibility of flexible link configuration is more increased, as number of fiber spans is more bigger and the residual dispersion per span (RDPS) is more large. It is also confirmed that the non-midway OPC link, in which RDPS of the latter half transmission section (after OPC) is decided by the averaged RDPS of the former half transmission section (before OPC), has more advantage for the flexible network configuration.

Recently wireless data services have widely spread on various multimedia devices such as smart phones and tablets. Existing wired data services have been replaced by wireless data services using mobile devices. Especially domestic mobile devices supporting both Wireless-Fidelity (Wi-Fi) and long term evolution (LTE) services have increased steadily. While Wi-Fi network is provided free of charge, LTE network is offered to pay for. Therefore, mobile devices provide smart network switch to support both preferred Wi-Fi and LTE networks. However, such handover and roaming between Wi-Fi and LTE networks can cause data connection stop in spite of charged data services. This paper has proposed the method to overcome data connection stop for guaranteeing seamless data service during handover and roaming procedures between networks.

Binary MQ arithmetic coding is widely used recently as a basic entropy coder in multimedia coding system. MQ coder esteems high in compression efficiency to be used in JBIG2 and JPEG2000. The importance of arithmetic coding is increasing after it is adopted as an unique entropy coder in HEVC standard. In the binary MQ coder, arithmetic approximation without multiplication is used in the process of recursive subdivision of range interval. Because of the MPS/LPS exchange activity happened in MQ coder, output byte tends to increase. This paper proposes an enhanced binary MQ arithmetic coder to make use of a lookup table for AQe using quantization skill in order to reduce the deficiency. Experimental results show that about 4% improvement of compression in case of JBIG2 for bi-level image compression standard. And also, about 1% improvement of compression ratio is obtained in case of lossless JPEG2000 coding. For the lossy JPEG2000 coding, about 1% improvement of PSNR at the same compression ratio. Additionally, computational complexity is not increasing.

In the present study, a coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed printed monopole antenna with an inverted n-shaped slot is newly proposed for dual band operations which cover bandwidths of CDMA (1.85~2.025 GHz) and WLAN (2.4~2.484 GHz) as well as implementation of omnidirectional radiation pattern. For enhancement of impedance bandwidth (S11 ≤ 10 dB) in 2.4 GHz WLAN frequency band, an inverted n-shaped slot instead of the previous n-shaped slot is etched on the printed radiating monopole. The proposed antenna is designed and fabricated on one side of FR4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.4, thickness of 1.6 mm, and size of 50 × 25 mm2. It has been observed that the measured impedance bandwidths are 280 MHz (1.84~2.12 GHz) in frequency band of CDMA and 420 MHz (2.38~2.8 GHz) in WLAN frequency band respectively. It is noticeable that impedance bandwidth in 2.4 GHz frequency band of WLAN is enlarged to three times due to use of inverted L-shaped slot in comparison with impedance bandwidth 140 MHz (2.39~2.53 GHz) obtained by use of the previous n-shaped slot. In addition, good omnidirectional radiation patterns have been observed over the entire frequency band of interest.

This paper presents an application of heuristic harmony search (HS) optimization algorithm for the identification of linear continuous time.delay system from step response. Identification model is first-order plus dead time (FOPDT), which describes a linear monotonic process quite well in most chemical processes and HAVC process and is often sufficient for PID controller tuning. This recently developed HS algorithm is conceptualized using the musical process of searching for a perfect state of harmony. It uses a stochastic random search instead of a gradient search so that derivative information is unnecessary. The effectiveness of the identification method has been demonstrated through a number of simulation examples.
